What is coaching?
Coaching is a development process that enables clients to achieve personal or professional goals.
The coach partners with his client in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires clients to maximize their personal or professional potential.
The coach empowers you through conversation and open-ended questions. He would first clarify your goals, identify the obstacles holding you back, and then come up with strategies for overcoming each obstacle. He would then support you in being accountable for taking actions to overcome these obstacles and towards achieving your life goals.
By developing these strategies with you, the coach would target your unique skills and gifts. By helping you to make the most of your strengths, the coach would provide the support you need to achieve a long-lasting change of your perspectives, actions and overall fulfillment.
The 7 benefits of coaching
According to several studies, clients reported that they had experienced one or more of the following benefits:
1. Better self-confidence
2. A growth mindset
3. Improved self-awareness
4. Enhanced relationships and communication skills
5. Better clarity and purpose
6. Improved overall well-being
7. Lower stress levels and better resiliency
What coaching is not?
Coaches are not consultants or advisors. They are not supposed to tell you what to do.
Instead, they will empower you to find your own solutions and new perspectives.
Coaches are not therapists or psychologists.
Unlike coaches, therapists and other mental health professionals focus on treating and healing mental health conditions such as trauma, depression, addictions or mental disorders of their patients.
If you experience any of these mental conditions, consulting a therapist would be advisable, as coaching would be inappropriate.
